When we are far apart
I carry you around

like an ache in my bones–
bright as the promise

of rain ringing out
in the callus

of a long-healed
fracture.

When we are far apart
I think of you so often

that my other thoughts
cast shadows–

    • I was a little worried that line was too obscure, but couldn’t think of any other way to say it. Glad it resonated with you!

      • I feel the same way with most of my poems so I end up not publishing them thinking people may not relate with it. At least I know I’m not the only one
